One of the hottest fashion trends is retro bathing suits. These swimsuits provide modesty with lower-cut bottoms and more supportive tops. Since all of fashion is currently heavily influenced by styles from the ’50s and ’60s, bathing suits like this are inexpensive and widely available. They come in a variety of cuts and styles that flatter nearly every body type.

Retro bathing suits often feature extensive ruching. These pleats and gathers make room for curves where necessary and pulls in to hug slender areas. They show off a curvy figure without creating lumps, whereas contemporary swimsuits are made of smooth fabrics that put “problem” areas and full stomachs on display. Women with full busts prefer retro suits because they have thicker straps and the aforementioned ruching allows for structured bra cups and underwires.

The bottoms of these suits have low leg lines similar to those of hot pants. They provide full coverage in the back and extend slightly down the thigh in front. Ruching creates more room for a curvy bottom or reduces slacking for those who are not voluptuous in that area.

A retro bikini is a good way to retain some modesty while also showing some sexy skin. The top provides full coverage and is usually held up with halter-style straps that are tied behind the neck to give the wearer customized support. The bottom has the same conservative lines as the full-piece suit. The waistband comes up over the hips and rests at the natural waist, unlike slinky bottoms that fall far below the belly button and expose more skin than many women feel comfortable showing in public. By wearing swimsuits like this, women can show off their slender waists without feeling insecure. Any woman who wants to embrace her inner Marylin should try a retro swimsuit!
